4 Sessions 4 세션

[4 Session] is a 4-channel video and installation artwork the artist Brody Condon made with masters of intangible cultural property, artists, shamans, students of traditional dance department from Anyang Arts High School, and Gestalt psychotherapists. If you only look at the making process, this artwork is close to a performance, because people, as a medium, demonstrate situations occurring instantly without any specific script at one place. But, if you watch the video that is a final product, it almost looks like a personal documentary. Because, it is a documentary focused on the characteristics of an individual, exchanges between characters, and manifestation of inner world rather than interpretation of a specific subject. But, the purpose of this video is not a storytelling of a person. On the contrary, the individuals placed in the frame of an artwork reflect Korean society in the same era, and operate only by the codes that make the traditional values and the cultural elements circulate in the society valid. And the screen and sound that express the psychological circumstances operated as such, or phenomena of physical changes realistically is concluded with an Anthropology essay that explores the ‘World of ego’.
