The performance [Peak] is in a line of the artist’s musical experiment converting a space into an instrument. In such process, the artist discovers freedom. The sound generated by the space is at last manifested as true freedom when someone who hears or sees it experiences a certain physical change. The artist Jee Young Sim, keeping in pace with the theme of the 4th APAP which is to look and read the past APAPs, suggested to use the [Anyang Peak], an artwork from the First APAP, in a totally different manner. The [Anyang Peak] that will be an instrument and a stage for a performance is a work of MVRDV made by extending the ridge of the summit the work is located. Conceiving the idea of the design from the meaning and shape, sobriety and uniqueness of the artwork, and modern elements of the material, the artist gave it a new function of producing another sound by shattering the sobriety in the performance. The students invited as players from Anyang Arts High School performed Kim Jung Mi’s [Wind], which was a forbidden song in the 70s by varying the rhythm of the Korean traditional Three Drum Dance. The artist brought out freedom with the students from Anyang Arts High School through conversion of the use of the space, melody of a 70s forbidden song, and variation of the rhythm of Korean traditional dance, and sought a way to communicate with the audience.
