The [Wish Lab] KOBAKANT conducted is a workshop where individuals tried to realize their wishes in electronic forms. As we search for a tailor or a carpenter to make clothes or furniture that reflect their characteristics, [Wish Lab] produces customized electronic devices to satisfy individual’s need and desire breaking away from the conventional way of the mass-produced electronic products. Discovering the ‘electronic imagination’ hidden under desire that is accustomed to the standardized production, they interpret and realize it in cooperation with the artist and participants. Focusing on the ‘soft electronic circuit’, the [Wish Lab] combines textile art such as sewing, knitting, embroidery, and weaving, and electronic technology that utilizes simple LED circuit or Arduino. In [Wish Lab], electronic products are close to a tool that helps realize wishes rather than science. Therefore, collecting someone’s wishes, and revealing the underlying desires through observation and conversation are as important as making them. All this work is completed when the realized wish is returned to the person, who originally had the wish.
