Sky Blue Flag (Anyang) 하늘색 깃발
Sky Blue Flag (Anyang) (2016) is a work by Byron Kim mounted on the flagpole of MVDRV Anyang Peak (2005). Flags are often used to claim an organized presence, but Kim&rsquos work is a representation of the sky against which it is installed, thereby conflating subjectgroundtwo-dimensionalitysensorial space. Many years ago, Kim made a kite the color of the sky as a way to connect with the heavens, but did not feel that the work succeeded. He then developed Sky Blue Flag for Sharjah Biennial 12 (2015),installed it along the Corniche in Sharjah, which serves as a major port connecting the United Arab Emirates to South East AsiaAfrica through the Arabian Gulf. Installed here in the mountains of Anyang, the flag once again reaches to the sky to connect this site to the world beyond.
